3.11 Code of Conduct

Þ  Minimum Requirements

The standard requires that a school publish a code of conduct applicable to every employee.  

3.11.1 Documentation of Expectations

Schools will clearly document the standards of behaviour expected of all employees in dealing with colleagues, clients and students.

 

3.11.2 Minimum Requirements

The Board has established the minimum requirements for the code of conduct. The document must include:

  • Philosophy and values of the school underpinning the code;
  • General responsibilities of the employee;
  • General professional and ethical conduct;
  • Duty of care; 
  • Physical contact;
  • Discrimination;
  • Sexual misconduct;
  •  Use of tobacco, alcohol, other drugs and medication;
  •    Procedures for dealing with breaches of the code of conduct; and 

  • Links with current legislation (e.g. Children, Young Persons and Their Families Act 1997, Anti-Discrimination Act 1998, Australian Government Disability Discrimination Act 1992.
