Schools should provide a clear statement describing the legal entity that governs the school and how the school is administered.

3.8.1 Overview of Governance Structure

The governance statement should include a description of the governing body and its roles and responsibilities. Flowcharts are often helpful.

3.8.2 Description of Administration

The statement should outline the details of the means by which the school is to be administered, especially in terms of delineation of roles and responsibilities of key personnel, such as the principal, senior staff and teachers

3.8.3 Roles & Responsibilities

Details of lines of responsibility should be included in the governance statement, especially for the following:

• policy development;
• staff supervision and leadership;
• financial accountability;
• educational accountability and reporting; and
• duty of care for students.
